Awnings & Zipscreens

Awnings Made for the Hunter Climate

An awning is one of the simplest ways to take the sting out of a Hunter summer. Fitted above windows, doors or over an entertaining area, a well-made awning blocks the harsh afternoon sun, keeps rain off the glass, and can cut solar heat gain on west-facing windows by up to 77% — so your house stays cooler and your aircon works less.

At Mick Sullivan Blinds, we’ve been fitting awnings across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland and Port Stephens for more than 30 years. Every awning is custom-made to suit the opening, the orientation and the way you actually use the space — whether that’s a quiet upstairs bedroom or a full outdoor living room you want to use year-round.

Aluminium Awnings

Aluminium awnings are the set-and-forget option. They won’t rust, warp or fade in the coastal air, and a wipe-down every now and then is about all the maintenance they’ll ever need. A good fit for coastal homes from Merewether through to Nelson Bay where salt spray eats cheaper materials for breakfast.

Fixed Hood Awnings

Made from interlocked aluminium panels with concealed joints for a clean, architectural look. We build them to any width to suit your opening, and can add support posts or arms where the span calls for it. Ideal over windows, entryways and shopfronts that need permanent weather cover.

Fabric Awnings

Fabric awnings give you style as well as shade. They soften the look of a facade, keep your carpets and furniture from fading, and make a massive difference to how hot a room feels in the afternoon. We use premium awning fabrics rated for Australian sun, and every fabric awning we install is backed by a 3-year warranty.

Rope & Pulley Awnings

The classic manual drop-arm awning. Operated by rope and pulley using an aluminium sail track — simple, reliable, and a good fit for traditional facades and period homes.

Automatic Roll-Up Awnings

A robust drop awning that rolls up into its own weather box when it’s not in use. Manually adjustable, protected from the elements when stowed, and a clean finish against the wall.

Internal Control Awnings

Operated from inside the room, these are the answer for upper-floor windows and anywhere you don’t want to be reaching outside to adjust the shade. Great for bedrooms, studies and second-storey living areas.

Folding Arm Awnings

The go-to for patios, decks and courtyards. Folding arm awnings extend out from the wall to throw shade over a large area, then retract flush when you want the sun back. Available with manual winders or motorised operation — and if you’re going motorised, we can tie it into sun and wind sensors so the awning looks after itself.

Zipscreen Awnings

Zipscreen outdoor blinds turn a pergola, alfresco or verandah into a proper living space you can use all year round. Australian designed and manufactured, they give you sun, wind and insect protection without the time, stress or cost of a traditional renovation. Custom-made in widths up to 7 metres with a 5-metre drop, they’re built around precision-extruded 52mm aluminium side channels with a concealed z-LOCK™ fabric retention system for zero gaps and a clean, modern finish — and a high-performance dual stainless steel Bearing Idler tested to over 10,000 cycles for smooth, reliable operation year after year.
